EVis Bioscience Featured in Life Sciences Review Europe for Its Perspective on Retinal Gene Delivery

EVis Bioscience is pleased to share that Prof. Elita Montanari, CTO of EVis Bioscience and Associate Professor in Pharmacy at the University of Roma Tre, has been featured in Life Sciences Review Europe with an expert article titled “Redefining Retinal Gene Delivery: Expanding the Possibilities Beyond Conventional Vectors.”

The article explores one of the key challenges in gene therapy: delivering genetic material safely, efficiently and selectively to the cells that need it most. While adeno-associated viral vectors have played a central role in ophthalmic gene therapy, limitations such as payload capacity and immunogenicity continue to restrict their therapeutic reach.

In this context, Prof. Montanari highlights the potential of extracellular vesicle-based platforms as non-viral delivery systems for retinal applications. EVis Bioscience is advancing a semi-autologous hybrid extracellular vesicle platform designed to deliver messenger RNA to retinal cells, with encouraging preclinical findings in human retinal models and animal studies.

This recognition reflects EVis Bioscience’s commitment to developing next-generation RNA delivery technologies aimed at expanding the possibilities of precision gene therapy, with a focus on diseases that currently lack effective treatment options.
